Beginner-Friendly Classes

For students new to a vinyasa or flow style of yoga, we recommend our Slow Flow classes. For beginners with an interest in classes that are more strech based, try Breathe. Stretch. Roll or Yin Stretch. Most of our classes are considered "All-Levels"; students of all abilities are welcomed and offered variations to build their practice no matter where they start.

For those looking to keep their practice interesting, we offer restorative, stretchy classes in addition to our Functional Flow, and Yoga w/ Weights all which will have you engaging your asanas in new ways. We Don’t Teach Yoga…

Well, we  approach yoga a LOT differently.

Ours is a more movement-based practice, which means that our poses mimic real-life situations. Sure, we think it’s cool to stand on your hands, but we think that our classes are a LOT more valuable when they help you feel better in your real life. 

For example, in one of our classes, you might focus on maneuvering a block with one hand to improve the mobility of your shoulders. This way, you’ll be able to reach overhead or behind your back with ease. 

In another class, we might ask you to practice balancing, this way, you’ll be well equipped for whatever stumbling blocks life throws your way. 

Every time you take class at Common Ground, you’ll explore fresh, new ways of moving your body. It really, really likes that.  

You see, the traditional flow-based yoga practice was built on repetitive movement. What we now know is that moving the body in the same way over and over leads to overuse and injury. We’ve seen it a million times.

Sure, those fancy postures look cool, but modern bodies were just not built to do them. We actually know a yoga teacher who had both of her hips replaced at 35! No thanks. 

That’s why our classes were built to be sustainable - we want you to enjoy movement for the rest of your life. 

Many people come to yoga to ‘get more flexible.’ And we think that’s great -- but only one tiny piece of a much bigger puzzle. We believe that strength is SO much more important than the ability to wrap your hamstrings around your head. 

 In fact, did you know that when you get stronger you actually become more mobile? Yep - you heard that right. You’ll move better and feel better when you get stronger. NOT more flexible. Our signature Functional Flow class is designed to get you strong and able - so you can take on everything life throws at you.
