Beginner-Friendly Classes
For students new to a vinyasa or flow style of yoga, we recommend our Yoga for Mobility, Align and Somatice Slow Flow. For beginners with an interest in classes that are more strech based, try Breathe. Stretch. Roll or Yin Stretch. Most of our classes are considered "All-Levels"; students of all abilities are welcomed and offered variations to build their practice no matter where they start.
Yoga for beginners
SATURDAY’S 9:00AM
This weekly class is designed especially for beginners who want to build a strong and confident foundation in yoga. Together, we’ll explore the basics of yoga postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama), learning how to connect movement and breath in a way that feels steady and supportive.

alternative to vinyasa flow?
A functional movement-based yoga studio offers an alternative to vinyasa flow by prioritizing practical movement patterns and alignment that enhance daily functionality, rather than focusing on dynamic sequences and continuous flow. While vinyasa flow emphasizes cardiovascular fitness and fluid transitions between poses, functional yoga hones in on improving joint stability, muscle activation, and overall body efficiency. This approach can be particularly beneficial for those looking to address specific movement dysfunctions, prevent injuries, and build strength and flexibility that translates directly into everyday activities, providing a more tailored and injury-preventative practice compared to the often intense and fast-paced nature of vinyasa flow.
What is functional movement?
There are many different schools of yoga, each offering a different approach to the experience of yoga. Functional movement-based yoga emphasizes how movements and poses enhance overall functionality and efficiency in daily life. Our primary goal is to improve the body's natural movement patterns, build strength, flexibility, and balance in ways that support practical activities and prevent injury.
Do you offer heated yoga?
We are a strictly non-heated studio. With Bikram or Hot Yoga, the heat is believed to increase flexibility but can also lead people to push too far and get injuries. The heat isn’t the same as a muscule that is activated through movement. Many love heated yoga and it’s benefits, and Common Ground provides a community for those looking for a different approach.
